Chinook basket making

Well known basket maker Bessie (George) Pickernell. A resident of Bay Center, Washington and grandmother to many of the Chinook Indian Nation’s current members. She is fondly remembered, and her baskets are sought after by collectors and community members. Her style of basket making has been preserved and is a living tradition amongst several families of the Chinook Indian Nation.
