Culture Committee

The Chinook Cultural Committee’s mission is to study, learn, and teach the traditions and ways of our ancestors. The primary focus is to revitalize these lifeways and to educate our community, interested individuals, institutions, government agencies, and the world. The committee members work tirelessly responding to countless requests for information about Chinook history, traditions, language, and a multitude of other topics.

The Cultural Committee is primarily responsible for the First Salmon Ceremony, the Chinook Winter Gathering, the Chinook Story Gathering, the Tansy Point Treaty Days Gathering, and other tribal cultural events. The Chinook Tribal Council, other committees, volunteers, and the Chinook Canoe Family’s drummers, singers, and dancers are vital to the success of these events.
